Ruth’s ambition is to turn this party into a marriage feast.  So the party is appropriate.  So Boaz’s bride is coming to him, and that’s a merry thing.  And that’s history.  History is Christ’s bride coming to him—and history ends with a marriage feast.  So true religion is a merry religion.

The way Christ was as the kinsman redeemer is the way you should conduct yourself too.  This is the pattern for the Christian.

Let’s look at how Jesus fulfills these kinsman redeemer (go’el) laws for us.  We’ll look at how the law is applied in Ruth, for the Church, and for us individually.

We’re going to look at the five functions of the kinsman redeemer and we’ll see how Boaz does that for Ruth—how Christ does that for the Church—and we’ll see how to apply that to your life.

In the romance is a point. In the providence of God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, this story comes to us for an example of Christ and the Church. Boaz is Christ and Ruth is the Church.

This gleaning system is part-and-parcel of the welcoming environment.  Come obey our laws, and we will share in our abundance.

In God’s providence, Ruth goes out sort-of randomly to glean for her living and she ends up in a favorable situation with manly, righteous, rich Boaz who ends up being, as we’ll see a kinsman redeemer.

In Christ, your choices are redeemed.

In Christ, God gives redeems/gives meaning to our choices.
